Transportation Guide to Macau

Macau is China’s Special Administrative Region, just like Hong Kong. Makau has their own government system, currency dan passport.  Most of all nationalities is free visa to enter Macau. Macau’s curremcy is MOP, but we can also use HK$ or CNY, the exchange rate is 1 MOP = HK$ 1 = CNY 1.

Macau airport serves direct flight from cities in China and International. But we can go to Macau by overland, from  Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

Macau and Hongkong is connected by ferry. The ferry operator are Cotai Water Jet dan Turbo Jet. Macau has 2 ferry terminal ferry, yaitu Taipa dan Maucau Outer Harbour. Begitu juga dengan Hongkong, ferry dari Macau ke Hong Kong mempunyai dua rute akhir, Hong Kong Macau ferry Terminal yang terletak di Sheung Wan Pulau Hong Kong, serta Kowlon China Ferry Terminal.

The fare for both route is about HK$ 165 for economy class.

There are direct busses between Guangzhou and Macau, the bus fare is CNY 70-150 for 3,5 hours bus ride. Some of departure points for this bus are Yuexiu South Coach Station, Dongfang Hotel, Hotel Landmark Canton, and LN Garden Hotel in Guangzhou, also Macau Tower and Grand Emperor Hotel in Macau.


No direct train heading to Macau, we have to go to Zhuhai, a town in China – Macau border. Guangzhou has several train schedule to Zhuhai that depart from Guangzhou South Railway Station. Harap diingat bahwa semua kereta dari Guangzhou menuju ke Zhuai berangkat dari stasiun Guangzhou South. The duration is about 1 to 1.5 hours only, and the ticket price is CNY90 per person for first class seat and CNY70 per person for second class seat.

Zhuhai Railway Station is in walking distance to the Gongbei Port, or called Barrier Gate, Border Gate and Portas do Centro in Macau. The opening time of the port is from 7:00 to 24:00. Please kindly notice that for passengers who travel to Zhuhai, it is important to get off at Zhuhai Railway Station instead of Zhuhai North Railway Station. The North station is far from the port.

Ships are also available between them every Saturday and Sunday, taking around 80min. The ferry departures at 09:00 on Saturdays and 14:30 on Sundays from Guangzhou Nansha Ferry Terminal; at 10:45 on Saturdays and 16:15 on Sundays from Macau Maritime Ferry Terminal. The ticket price is from CNY180 to CNY4,480 based on different seat class (Standard to VIP Class). Please note that the information above is just for reference, the schedule and price may change due to adjustment and seasons. There are also free hotel shuttle buses available at Maritime Ferry Terminal for transfer.

Thanks to the free hotel shuttle buses and city buses, the transfer between Gongbei Port and some main scenic spots as well as hotels are very convenient.
